“Series” Illustration Set – an exploration in muted mood ||
Second illustration in the Series set- series 02. Love the great crease I got down the middle by haphazardly tossing them in my sketchbook and carrying them to the studio to scan : ) but as I mentioned in the first Series post, the added crinkleness is what I’m loving most about these prints now up at Etsy- keeping the natural grayish-tint of the drafting paper and the smudginess from the scan all lend themselves to the feeling I was going for in this set- a sense of whimsical longing or wistful nostalgia- feelings you get from a folded up photo you find in your old things or a movie ticket you saved from your first date. It may be crinkled, faded, but those imperfections remind you that this came from another time and carrying it with you takes you back there. Does this make sense, or am I crazy rambling? : )
“Series” Illustration Set – an exploration in muted mood
This little doodle is Series 01, part of a muted-mood set of illustrations I began in October 2012. As pictured is exactly how the print will turn out- to preserve the energy of this set, the image’s original greyed, crinkled background of the drafting paper is left on the final print file. I thought it gives an interesting texture, while also maintaining the mood I was going for with the “Series” illustration set.
Like you know that awesome crinkled up picture in your wallet? Or a tattered, ripped-up editorial from a Vogue long past that brings back a sense of nostalgia? I wanted that feeling in this- “wistful” : )
10 days to Hallow’s Eeeeve! *eek*
Ok, I love Halloween much too much.
Savage Beauty
Fell in love with this editorial photograph while lurking, as always, on my Pinterest. This is just the pencil version- Im going to take her to the watercolor block in due time. Not sure who the original photographed awesomeness of metal fashion accessories are designed by, but the mood and energy of it reminded me of McQueen- thus how I came by the title : )
Hope you enjoy!
