Remember back in the day when I used to blog daily? : o Its a very distant memory… so much so that I am already working on my new years resolution, which involves better time management between my two loves of … Continue reading
Destined for the watercolor block- Im calling this girl “Chop Stix” : )
Today was bittersweet with a side of wonderful- I packaged up these two original paintings for their new home in Switzerland!
A lovely guy over there contacted me a few days ago via Facebook asking about originals for sale. If you’ve visited my Etsy store you may have noticed I usually only part with prints or small originals- but I sold my first full-size original of Macarons earlier this month, and that sort of opened the floodgate of being ok with parting with them! And to have someone ask specifically for them I was honored- so he was inquiring between these two, Leila and Uptown and Down and also Bouffant. After talking sizes and prices, he with his outstanding taste went with these two, my two most favorite illustrations! So I took a zillion goodbye photos of them and packaged them off. Thankyou Dirk! I hope you enjoy them as much as I did creating them!
Anyways, 3 packages is usually a good indication of a great week : ) Actually one of these is yesterday’s #giveaway print on its way to Portland to dance up Alexa’s new apartment! Congrats!
This little doodle is Series 01, part of a muted-mood set of illustrations I began in October 2012. As pictured is exactly how the print will turn out- to preserve the energy of this set, the image’s original greyed, crinkled background of the drafting paper is left on the final print file. I thought it gives an interesting texture, while also maintaining the mood I was going for with the “Series” illustration set.
Like you know that awesome crinkled up picture in your wallet? Or a tattered, ripped-up editorial from a Vogue long past that brings back a sense of nostalgia? I wanted that feeling in this- “wistful” : )
adding to my stockpile of black and whites on watercolor paper waiting for color : ) hopefully that “nirvana week” of solid painting will be in the new studio space! ^.^
Fell in love with this editorial photograph while lurking, as always, on my Pinterest. This is just the pencil version- Im going to take her to the watercolor block in due time. Not sure who the original photographed awesomeness of metal fashion accessories are designed by, but the mood and energy of it reminded me of McQueen- thus how I came by the title : )
Hope you enjoy!
So, while this is still quite a small modest blog in the ways of daily hits, followers and whatnot, I haven’t failed to realize that almost monthly since my blog/illustration shoppe open about two years ago one of the top-viewed … Continue reading
Very happy with how this turned out- Im sad to let it go!!
If you’re interested in requesting a custom illustration like Nita, visit my Etsy shoppe!
Getting a little anxious now, the page is filling up with color!
I know some other illustrators dont post many progressions, but I love love how it looks during the watercolor process. If this was my sketch to own I would be half tempted to leave in incomplete just for the interesting quality it lends : )
2 more to go!!
Today, being my favorite day, was supposed to be dedicated to sleeping into an absurd hour, and then lounging about all day without a care save for popping in now and then to choose which flavor of coffee I wanted to push through the Keurig.
However, the neighbors decided to bust out the old chainsaw and chop down a large tree in their backyard.. at 7:00 am.
Needless to say, my planned schedule got thrown for a loop. I ended up rolling out of bed early, feeling restless.
So I sat down to re-work a custom illustration request that had gotten put on hold from a few months ago. The thing is paid for and the wonderful girl has been super patient, and today was as good as any to focus some energy into sketching out her portrait.
Here’s how it went! Im pretty happy with how it turned out- Im liking the two in layout next to eachother. But my opinion is secondary, hopefully Donna is pleased as well!
